Lahn Camino (Lahn-Camino)

Cartoon pilgrim by the River Lahn in front of a cathedral on a rock

In short: Lahn Camino (Lahn-Camino): from Wetzlar to Lahnstein. Length: around 150 km, duration: about 1 week. Best time: April to October.

Overview

The Lahn Camino follows the Lahn valley from Wetzlar to the river's mouth on the Rhine at Lahnstein. Weilburg, Limburg Cathedral and Arnstein Abbey lie along the way.

The route mostly runs away from roads and alternates between river and hills. At about a week it fits well into a normal holiday, and the Lahn Valley Railway covers almost the whole route.

On the Rhine, after a short walk, you can switch to the Moselle Camino and continue to Trier. Together they make a lovely pilgrimage through western Germany.

Main stops: Wetzlar, Weilburg, Limburg, Arnstein Abbey, Lahnstein.

Through the Lahn valley

The route begins at Wetzlar Cathedral and keeps to the slopes of the Lahn valley. Weilburg with its palace and ship tunnel makes a good stop. In Limburg you can see the cathedral above the river from far away.

A good one-week route

The stages are mostly 20 to 25 kilometres long. Because the Lahn Valley Railway runs nearby almost everywhere, you can quickly get to the next place to stay if it rains or you have blisters. From Lahnstein you can carry on along the Moselle Camino to Trier.
